Hatch ("the App") is a fly fishing companion built by independent developers. This policy explains how we handle your information when you use Hatch.
Information We Collect
Hatch processes the following data:
- Camera & Photos — Used when you take a photo to identify an insect or fly pattern, or attach a photo to a journal entry. Journal photos stay on your device.
- Location — Used to provide location-based hatch chart data. Your precise location is never stored or transmitted.
- Journal Data — Catch logs including photos, species, size, location names, and notes. All stored locally on your device.
- Community Posts — When you choose to share a catch to the Community feed, the photo and catch details (species, size, fly pattern, water type, body of water, and your caption) are uploaded to our servers and visible to other anglers. Your email and name from your sign-in provider are used to create your community profile. You can delete your posts at any time.
How We Use Your Information
Journal entries, fly box inventory, and insect/fly identification all process on-device. The only data uploaded to our servers is what you explicitly choose to share to the Community feed.
- Camera access: to capture images for on-device insect and fly identification, and to attach photos to journal entries.
- Location access: to show relevant hatch chart data for your area.
- Photo library access: to save journal photos and let you browse existing ones.
- Community: when you share a post, your photo and catch details are stored on our servers so other anglers can see, like, and comment on them.
Third-Party Services
Hatch uses the following third-party services:
- RevenueCat — Manages in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat's privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy
- ML Kit (Google) — Powers on-device image labeling for insect identification. Processing happens locally. Google Privacy Policy
- Supabase — Hosts the Community feed backend (posts, comments, likes, follows, and profiles). Supabase Privacy Policy
- Google / Apple Sign-In — Used to authenticate your Community account. We receive your name and email to create your profile.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with anyone. Your private journal entries, fishing spots, and catch records stay on your device. Information you share to the Community feed is visible to other signed-in anglers — you control what to post and can delete your posts at any time.
Children's Privacy
Hatch does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
